WATER

Water is my antidote to heat, fuss, noise and too much thinking. Also to stalemates, sloth and passivity. Even looking at it is satisfying. In winter the sea in Durban is a solid thing on the horizon, deep opaque blue and when you are at its edge it is another thing – transparent, liquid. Then diving in, floating, swimming, lifted by waves, riding them, dumped and diving back in.

Water is the perfect reminder of change - mutable, fluid, responsive.

These photographs honour water.

Lilo – peacefully suspended between sky and water

River Ganges – Hindus blessed by holy water with a bathe in the Ganges

Shembe – worship and baptism on Battery beach at dawn

Sea tiles – immersion, reflection and rejuvenation

Holiday series – watching the sea transform with light, tides, colours through the day, throughout a holiday
