"Now and then" exhibition by Andrew Verster

Now and thenArtist name: Andrew Verster

Exhibition title: “Now and Then”

Opening date: 19 June 2007

Closing Date: 8 July 2007

Venue: KZNSA Gallery complex

Opening time: 6:00 PM

Now and Then is a tribute to a legend. The exhibition will attempt to look at Andrew’s activities outside of what he is known for which is painting. The works on exhibition will be from his own private collection. Mostly not shown before. There will be works from this year – BODYWORKS of monumental tattoo figures – a series of very large landscapes titled PRIMARY LANDSCAPES and works using tissue paper stained with tea, coffee and turmeric, fused with melted wax.

The title PRIMARY LANDSCAPE evokes associations with words such as first, principal, primitive, earliest, primal, beginning and others. Primary too refers to primary colour. They are luminous as if they just came out of the box; these works are a recent creation from the artist.

There will be models for the opera LA TRAVIATA for which the artist did the sets and costumes, as well as a few of the costumes themselves. A series of fifty collage compositions for tapestry. Marquette’s for architectural projects.  Designs for beadwork. And of course paintings and drawings.

This is NOT a retrospective, but, rather, a look at Andrew’s present concerns in the context of what has come before.
